Business Ethics: Shining the Light on Yourself
How would you grade your business decision-making? It's often difficult to be objective about this issue. One idea is to write a short news article about the process. Do it on a regular basis (e.g., quarterly, monthly or even weekly if time permits). It's not as important to focus on the quality of the writing as it is to focus on the essence of your actions such as supervising and disciplining employees, running meetings, interacting with co-workers, coordinating tasks, etc. When you are finished, review your "news story." Determine if you would be comfortable if it ran in a local newspaper and your friends and family saw it. If you wouldn't have any problem with the publication, there is a strong likelihood you are operating in an ethical manner. Otherwise, you might want to revise your tactics. |
